Who is Cameron?
In 2013 Cameron was your average 9 year old boy. He was the sweetest most loving boy then and now. Our world was forever changed when Cameron went in
for an outpatient procedure on December 2013 that unfortunately went horribly wrong. Cameron developed a clot in his brain from his procedure that caused him to have a stroke. The damage that it caused to the brain was frontal lobe damage and temporal lobe damage. He had to relearn all the everyday functions we usually take for granted. Walking, talking, using the bathroom, eating. It was a dark time. But with the right support we were able to get Cameron back on his feet and on the road to recovery. Almost 2 years to the day of his stroke we had the next obstacle we would have to face on his journey, seizures. It was one of the most frightening things I had ever seen. As parents we felt helpless. We couldn’t help our baby. I didn’t know what was happening in that moment. I had never seen it. This wasn’t a part of my life. Until it was. He would go on to have “burst” of seizures. Sometimes up to 6 at a time. He would be in a postictal state and it would take at least 45 minutes to an hour to hear his voice again, or for him to open his eyes. There was never a pattern or a warning. This was going to be a part of our life and we needed to do everything possible to educate ourselves on ways to help our son. Dr.’s wanted to increase medication each time the burst would become more consistent or more frequent. The medications had terrible side effects that would make him aggressive, depressed and angry. They were changing him and I was watching it happen. We went back to the specialist to make changes and just when we felt something was working, we would go through periods where we couldn’t get them under control. We started researching the benefits of CBD and seizures. His neurologist explained to me that he didn’t think it would benefit Cameron because of the types of injury he had. But I was desperate to find him a more natural way to help him. Since starting him on CBD I have noticed changes in his mood, the frequency in his seizures, the length of them. He comes back to me so quickly after having one. I have found a little light at the end of the tunnel. Our journey has been a hard one but we are doing our best to adapt to our new normal and to give Cameron a chance at a normal life. |
